Lingerie is the name for a group of women's intimate clothing, not for one garment. Lingerie covers undergarments, sleepwear and lightweight robes, made in lace, satin and other soft or decorative fabrics, so the group is wider than bras and panties alone.

How is lingerie different from everyday underwear?
Lingerie is made for an occasion and everyday underwear for daily wear. Lingerie uses lace, satin or sheer mesh and a decorative cut, while everyday underwear is made for comfort through the day. A lace set also suits any day.
